Autism Awareness

The weather is continually really odd. It was really cold and then this.. Thursday (I believe) it was 1 degree. With the wind chills getting in the negative teens. So that was kind of really cold. New Years was like 8 degrees all of our appointments kept falling through (like 4 in one night) and so we were just walking around trying to street contact because people kept getting mad that we were tracting on a Holiday. And the libraries were closed so we couldn't go in for internet proselyting. We tried to focus more on warm heated Bus Contacting. ha!

Really cool story of the week. So we have a recently reactivated lady we have been helping. She has been through quite the long list of trials over the past 5 years. Including watching her husband die from a heart attack right in front of her right before Christmas. Then getting a new boyfriend and having him die after months of dating right before Christmas. Then having another boyfriend dump her a week before Christmas. Plus she can't work and such and has an autistic kid. So quite the list of trials to say the least. Eric, her autistic boy, had a seizure on Friday (Where the lady was supposed to be having a date with this potential boyfriend that night who has now since decided he was uninterested). He bit his tongue and had to ride to the hospital. Lots of medical stuff and increasing his medicine dosage. His last seizure was 6 months ago so they are starting to be more frequent. BUT anyway, we went to give them both a blessing on Sunday. I got the cool opportunity of giving Eric the blessing. It was really cool. The blessing wasn't much. He wasn't blessed to be healed. But He was blessed to be happy and not hung up by any medical issues. But the really really cool part is what was happening during the blessing. As an autistic kid he is always holding a straw. That he plays with or shakes back and forth. Always. He has about the mind of an 8 year old but is 17 years old. During the prayer he was completely still with his hands put together to pray. Completely still. The whole time. Right after the prayer he went back to playing with his straw. Sweetest guy you'll ever meet. Really cool experience.

Just kind of the usual missionary work. I may come home with secondhand smoke problems ha! We sat through an appointment with one guy who probably smoke 4-5 cigarettes in the 30 ish minutes we were with him. And we were in a closed small room. So that was nice. We walked around in the wind for another hour to try and get the smell off our clothes. Can't have missionaries smelling like smoke.
