Another Couple of Weeks (of cold)

Well, last week was a sad note with the Asians dropping us. Sadly they have yet to call us back and want to come back. But I'm still not quite considered them dropped yet. Just not progressing.

We tracted into this very odd guy. Probably about 45. He acts like he is probably about 25. He is just way nice guy though. We explained who we were briefly and he had us come back this last Tuesday. We taught him the Restoration and he loved it. We left him a pamphlet and Book of Mormon. Then set up a time to go Thursday because he opened up to us and told us that he really wants to change. But currently he does drugs and stuff. Not too much of a surprise as you could see a pipe right there on the table that you smoke drugs with. So we went over that Thursday because he KNEW if we came over that he would not have the urge to do drugs.

So Thursday we come over to Andy's (that guy.) He has not only read but studied the pamphlet. He believes all of it. We told him that he should pray about the Book of Mormon. He asked why because he already believes it. He told us he just laid in bed after our visit on Tuesday and prayed to God. He said he felt "satisfied." He had no urge to do drugs or call up a lady for things that would break the law of Chastity or etc. He then told us that he was curious about how the girl in the picture in the pamphlet was kneeling while praying. We told him it wasn't absolutely necessary BUT it's good to do when you are like saying your nightly prayers and if you're in the right situation to. Keep in mind that most of this teaching is going through Sport Analogies because he LOVES sports (football, baseball) and he understands it completely with those analogies. He was like "Okay. I'm going to kneel now." Without even being asked. Then he told us when we should meet with him Tuesday and Thursday AND told us that on Thursday we should talk about making a date as a goal for his baptism. So he is pretty much running the show and we are just doing the teaching ha! It's awesome. We just have to get over the drugs, cigarettes and the Law of Chastity issues. He may or may not have been a pimp. ha! Welcome to the city.

So it's going pretty awesome with Andy. We also got a pretty sweet referral from a lady in the other ward. She looks like a solid investigator. Very interested intelligent lady.

Elder Angell is pretty great. Him and I are similar physically (tall and skinny). Similar in some ways but he is into different things than me. He actually asked to get transfered into a biking area because he loves bikes. He is regretting it now that he realizes how cold and snowy it is without the car BUT still funny!

Great highlight of the week. I found a ring in the heating vent in our apartment! It says Jesus on it. It's pretty great. And it fits me perfectly. So go figure on that one!

Another Funny story. So we came back to our apartment Wednesday to find out that our heating
is quite busted. The thermometer was not working. So we call the guy who owns the place. He calls the heating guy. The heating guy blows us off and is just not being easy to work with. SO we took matters into our own hand. A couple of random screwdrivers later, I fixed the ghetto dial thermometer and got the heater going! It was great! Then the heating guy came the next day and switched the thermometer with a new one even though I told him I fixed it. But oh well! ha!

All is well in Buffalo. Trying to stay warm. Trying to find as many people as possible and put my heart into the work.

We had our first Bible study group that we tried out this week. It was quite successful! Tons of investigators came. INCLUDING Stephen (our Recent Convert)'s wife! Which was AWESOME! I was bouncing off the walls afterwards. Eternal Families are pretty cool. So she seems to be warming up to it a little! She is still a huge introvert. Worse than dad by miles upon miles.

Andy is doing pretty good! (Kind of). We met with him on Tuesday and all was going good. He is still accepting everything really well and talking about how satisfying the Gospel seems. But then on Thursday he called and cancelled our appointment because a bunch of his work friends were coming over... Which meant he was probably going to "lose the game" and end up doing drugs. Needless to say we got a call later that night from him informing us that he did "lose the game" and did drugs. BUT we think that will be a good thing for him because now it will help him realize the positive effect meeting with us/The Gospel is giving him and what happens if he strays from it. So I'm seeing good things going to come from him.

So half of this ward is quite liberal. For Mormons at least. It ALWAYS leads to some funny funny interesting conversations. I love it haha! People out here are just fun and really down to Earth which is nice. Some of the people that they just accept and really let into their ward family is amazing. I could just see good ol' Utah wards really nervous around these people. It's just really interesting to see the contrast between Eastern State Mormons and Utah Mormons. Same Gospel though!

Buffalo Spanish elders in our district had another baptism this week which makes for two in a row. Plus Eggert Elders should have 1 or 2 coming up. Plus Spanish has another 1 coming up. Plus we have like 3 really potential ones coming up. It's pretty crazy! The work is really hastening out here. It's great!

Other than that. Surviving. It's freeezing cold out here! Hahaha! I'm never going to live anywhere North of St. George. I'll just commute to college. ha! I will really appreciate the humid summers when they come ha! Or a car if I get transferred into a car area.
